How to Find Rest for Tired Moms

If you’re a tired mom feeling overwhelmed by the constant demands of life, you’re not alone. Between caring for your family, managing your home, and trying to keep up with daily responsibilities, finding rest for tired moms can feel nearly impossible.

But real rest isn’t found in a perfectly quiet house or a cleared schedule—it’s found in something deeper.

In this post, I want to encourage you with the source of true rest and how you can begin to experience it, even in the middle of a busy and sometimes chaotic season of motherhood.

The Invitation Into True Rest for Tired Moms

In Matthew 11:28-30 (NKJV), we find the most beautiful invitation into real rest.

Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.

I also love the way this is written in The Message Bible:

Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to me. Get away with me and you’ll recover your life. I’ll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with me and work with me—watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won’t lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with me and you’ll learn to live freely and lightly.

Doesn’t that sound like everything we need right now?

It’s no surprise that Jesus is the answer to our exhaustion, because He truly is our source for everything we need.

This kind of rest—the deep, soul-level rest He offers—is so vital. And as moms… we need it constantly. Not just once a day, but moment by moment.

Rest Isn’t Found in Perfect Circumstances

The truth is, we have a lot to do. We’re caring for our families, stewarding our homes, and carrying many responsibilities. But there is a way to do all of this with His strength in us, resting in Him as we go about our days.

  • Not striving
  • Not forcing
  • Not running on empty

But walking with Him—at His pace.

Here’s where I used to get tripped up, and maybe you do too. We tend to think rest means everything around us has to stop.

  • The house has to be clean
  • The kids have to be quiet
  • The schedule has to be cleared

But real, soul-deep rest isn’t found in perfect circumstances. It’s found in a Person.

And that means—even in the middle of noise… even in the middle of laundry piles, dirty dishes, and little ones needing us… we can still experience rest in our souls. Because our rest is not based on what’s happening around us. It’s based on Who is living within us.

A Different Kind of Life

Psalms 23 (NKJV) paints such a beautiful picture of what life can look like when we learn to rest in Jesus.

The Lord is my shepherd;
I shall not want.
He makes me to lie down in green pastures;
He leads me beside the still waters.
He restores my soul;
He leads me in the paths of righteousness
For His name’s sake.

Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,
I will fear no evil;
For You are with me;
Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.

You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies;
You anoint my head with oil;
My cup runs over.

Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me
All the days of my life;
And I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.

You’ll notice that even in this passage, life isn’t perfect. It talks about walking through deep valleys and being surrounded by enemies. And yet—right there in the middle of it all—there is peace. There is provision. There is overflow.

That’s the kind of life we can have in Him.

Starting From the Right Place

So let’s start there.

Let’s build a strong foundation on the Word of God and learn to live each day in relationship with Jesus. This is what positions us to receive the kind of rest Scripture talks about. And this is what begins to overflow into every area of our lives—making it more peaceful, more meaningful, and more joy-filled.

As we seek Him first and align our hearts with His, we’ll begin to notice a difference. Not because our circumstances are suddenly perfect, but because we’re learning to walk through them with Him. His peace starts to shape our perspective, His strength carries us through the hard days, and His presence becomes our resting place.

And as He works in us, that peace doesn’t stay with us—it overflows into our homes, our relationships, and our families as well.

My Favorite Bible Study Tools

If you’re looking to go deeper in your quiet time with the Lord on your journey to find rest for tired moms, here are a few of my absolute favorite Bible study tools:

  • 📖 Parallel Study Bible (NKJV & AMP)
    I love this Bible because it lets you read both the New King James Version (NKJV) and the Amplified Version (AMP) side-by-side. It’s so helpful for gaining deeper understanding and fresh perspective as you study God’s Word.

  • 📖 Compact KJV Bible
    This smaller, travel-friendly King James Version Bible is perfect for tossing in your bag for church, Bible study, or when you’re out and about. I love having God’s Word with me wherever I go!

  • 🖊️ Notebook + Pens
    If you’re anything like me, you love having a beautiful notebook and a smooth-writing pen nearby. I use mine to document the truths God is revealing to me, take notes during Bible study, and jot down what the Holy Spirit is speaking to my heart in those quiet, still moments.

These simple tools make it easier (and more fun!) to stay consistent in the Word.
