Baking Tips for the Best Cherry Chocolate Chip Cookies
1. Choosing Your Chocolate & Cherry Chips
For the best flavor, use high-quality chocolate chips (semi-sweet or dark chocolate pairs beautifully with the cherry chips). I love using Gurley’s Sweet Cherry Flavored Chips—they give the cookies that perfect festive red color and just the right amount of cherry sweetness.
2. Creaming the Butter & Sugars
One of the secrets to a soft and chewy cookie is properly creaming the butter and sugars. Be sure to mix until the mixture is light and fluffy—this usually takes about 2-3 minutes with an electric mixer. This step helps create a cookie with the perfect texture.
3. Mixing the Dough
Once you add the egg and vanilla, mix until just combined. Over-mixing can lead to a tougher cookie, and nobody wants that! When adding the dry ingredients, mix on low speed until everything is incorporated. The dough should be soft but not sticky.
4. Scooping & Baking
I like to use a tablespoon-sized cookie scoop to ensure all my cookies are the same size and bake evenly. You can bake them on a parchment-lined baking sheet (I highly recommend Reynolds pre-cut parchment paper) for easy cleanup.
The cookies should bake for 8-10 minutes at 350°F—watch for the edges to turn golden brown. The centers may look slightly soft when you take them out, but they’ll firm up as they cool.
5. Cooling & Storing
Let the cookies cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack. This helps them set without overbaking. Once cooled, store them in an airtight container to keep them soft and fresh for days (if they last that long!).
These Cherry Chocolate Chip Christmas Cookies are perfect for cookie exchanges, holiday parties, or just enjoying with family around the Christmas tree. They’re soft, chewy, and bursting with chocolate-cherry goodness—sure to become a new holiday tradition in your home.
